Yaadein...............the sweet n sour moments shared from life.

    Rimjhim’s gift was another surprise of the day. Ghazal opened the packet, her curiosity turning to surprise and then complete shock at seeing the contents. It was her own diary which she had given to Vaibhav on the day before he was leaving for that fateful business trip to USA. , which proved to be his last. Along with her diary, there were loose sheets of paper, with neatly typed lines, none other than her own poetry compiled beautifully. Her eyes got blurred with tears, reali z ing what Vaibhav had planned to do for her.             There it was, all her old poetry collection, including all those poems, she had shared with Vaibhav, and one which she had thought lost with his sad demise. So this was the surprise, Vaibhav had talked about in his last conversation with her , just before returning to India. He was planning to get them compiled in a book, a dream which was lost forever.     ...

It seemed life had even more surprises in store for Ghazal. Three days later, when she was leaving the school, she heard a familiar voice calling her name. She turned to see Rimjhim, Vaibhav’s sister,  standing there. Ghazal was pleased to see her old friend, who could have been her sister-in-law, had it not been for that heart-wrenching tragedy. They were seeing each other after years, in fact for the first time after her marriage to Arun. She walked towards her and hugged her tight, both their eyes getting wet, remembering that one person, who was close to them both.                   They had remained in touch only through their common friends in the past years. A perfect evening moved gradually towards a cool, peaceful night. The drive back home was a pleasant one, Vrinda falling asleep in the back seat, exhausted after an active day. Both Arun and Ghazal drove in silence, when Ghazal asked him about his call to Mihir. Arun simply nodded in affirmation, not giving any particular reason for it. Ghazal thought it better to let the matter rest. She simply closed her eyes and let the soft music playing in the car, seep into her. She loved good music especially the soft romantic oldies. Music always brought back memories of those lovely moments, she had spent with Vaibhav. Watching the Sun going down and the sky filled with so many shades, brought back those fond memories when she and Vaibhav had often watched sunset together from the terrace of her house. She remembered asking him once, when she caught him looking at her, why did he love sunset so much. His reply had touched her heart. “ I love to see all those beautiful colours in the sky reflected in your eyes. I wish to spend every sunset with you in front of me, watching that sweet blush on your face just like a new bride. I want you in my dreams every night looking just as beautiful, not knowing which one would be the last.” Lost in his loving words, a droplet had slipped from her eye, taken quickly on his finger before it dropped down. The farm house was a two rooms set, attached with a well equipped kitchen, and a lobby arranged in a rustic look, complete with cane easy chairs and an old antic brass table with a glass top. Pots with natural green plants arranged well to add to its beauty, surrounded with an uneven lush green garden, developed naturally, resembling a small hill top, tall mango and custard-apple trees and backyard used for growing vegetables. On one side was a swimming pool, attached with a water slide, covered on all sides by tall bamboos, tied together so as to create a private area to relax without any prying eyes. Next day being Sunday, both Vrinda and Arun slept till late. Ghazal had the entire dawn time to ponder on her feelings and thoughts. Last few weeks had been very confusing for her, with Mihir’s call adding to her confusion. She took a tour of the house, rearranging pieces of furniture as well as the decorative pieces, which had been left at the servants’ disposal, Arun not taking any interest whatsoever.               Then she made breakfast and tea , arranged them on the garden table at the terrace, which she had decorated herself years ago . She was disappointed at the pathetic condition, it was in now. Pots of plants were misplaced and the artificial spring fountain needed redecoration and the swing too needed new covers. But she felt hesitant as to whether she had any right to do the changes. Her reverie was broken by Arun’s entry, who smiled and wished her good morning. Vrinda’s response to the idea of a visit to their old house was as expected. Her excitement convinced Ghazal that her decision was not wrong. Next day Arun came to pick them up, helping Vrinda pack her things while Ghazal packed hers. Ghazal asked her neighbour and friend, Disha to keep a watch on the house in her absence, who was more than happy to oblige, happy for her friend and little Vrinda who was like a daughter to her. Three of them then headed towards the house, which had once been her home.           The house was just as she had left years ago, no major changes, but felt lifeless. Ghazal’s decision to leave, had come as a shock for Arun, but his pride had come in the way and he had just allowed her to go. As years had passed, Arun had immersed himself in his work, not caring about anything else. As they drove out of the school, many eyes followed them, as this was the first time, when anyone had seen Ghazal with a male companion. She had made it a point to never discuss her personal life with anyone there. Yet she knew, Arun’s visit must have posed so many questions in everyone’s mind.          Ghazal kept silent during most of the drive, listening to non-stop chat of Vrinda, answering only with a word or two, when she was addressed . Both father and daughter were busy chatting away. Vrinda was delighted to reach their destination, the Triton mall , which was her favourite, as she loved to play virtual games there. They had snacks and coffee at the cafe and then headed towards the game zone, where Vrinda got busied herself for almost an hour, leaving just two of them together.
